Of the 10 islands that make up the Mackerels group, two provide accommodation - Thevenard Island and Direction Island. The landscape is very much north Western Australian, abounding with vegetation typical of the region. Our Location
The Mackerel Islands are situated 22km offshore from the town of Onslow, 1,400km north of Perth in Western Australia's spectacular Pilbara region. Accommodation is available on Thevenard Island and Direction Island. Thevenard Island is a C Class Nature Reserve and as well as providing accommodation for holidaymakers, it also accommodates an oil storage facility.

How To Get To The Mackerel Islands?

Road Travel
Road travel from Perth to Onslow is a comfortable drive of about a day and a half on fully sealed roads.

By Air
Qantas (131 065) flies between Perth & Karratha and Skywest (1300 660 088) flies between Perth & Learmonth (just south of Exmouth). Norwest Air Work provides charter flights from Learmonth and Karratha directly to Thevenard Island. Karratha flying services also provide charter flights form Karratha to Thevenard Islands whilst charter flights are also available from Onslow to Thevenard Island.
